Originally, NORA (network computer with OSI reference architecture) was developed to forward centrally incoming payment requests for credit cards to an IBM SNA mainframe via Makatel and to send the responses back to the requesting terminal.
A further development of NORA is later used by the card service providers VISA, American Express and Diners Club.
